This report and presentation are specially designed for all of you to see and experience the journey and achievements of DPS Haldwani.
Aristotle once said “We are the sum of our actions”, his words resonate with me personally. As an educator I appreciate the premise that an individual’s cumulative actions can result in a fantastic end product and I am here to elaborate the action that we have taken this year and one which has been achieved collectively. We have had a remarkable year and the school has grown from strength to strength.Today, I share all the hard work that our students and teachers have put in so far.
I am often asked a question… what makes a good school, is it the teachers? The students? Or is it the curriculum? Is it the facilities, principal or the parents? The obvious answer is the combination of all these and yet the answer is different for each school. Categorising a school as excellent requires
(A) a carefully engineered roadmap
(B) Clearly defined procedures taken together with all stakeholders and
(c) forging ahead with a shared vision.
At DPS we create an environment where children have the confidence to learn and the freedom to fail, where they can discover what really matters to them and realise their full potential.
We aim at providing holistic development that prepares today’s youth with the tools and knowledge for tomorrow’s challenges.
Here is the beautiful journey of our second year… Management and Staff together sought the blessings of the Almighty for the success of the
new endeavour with a Hawan and prayer service. School started for the session 2019-2020 on April 9, 2019. The enthusiasm for the new session was
doubled by the fact that school had received its affiliation to CBSE on April 2, 2019 and we were excited to welcome our first Class X batch of
Faculty and parent orientation along with student orientation was conducted over the month of April.
The month was interspersed with special assemblies of Ambedkar Jayanti, Good Friday, World Heritage Day, Earth Day, World Book Day, to name a few. However, highlight and the most popular were the swimming classes and the enthusiasm for the same was infectious and a
delight to watch.
“Aarambh - the beginning…”was organised to highlight the journey of the students in the second year running at DPS Haldwani on May 19, 2019 before the Summer Vacations. Finale of the event was the acknowledgement of the achievements of our armed forces and paying tribute to the martyrs especially of Pulwama attack. The programme featured various colourful performances of the students’. The 100 % participation of students was appreciated by all.
Summer vacation was a start of a new initiative by DPS Haldwani. We organised the Summer Camp "Ulhasa" which saw the participation of more than 250 students. All participants received a
To enhance the co scholastic abilities of our student as well as caring for students who did not have guardians to look after them before a certain time frame we ran the after school day boarding programme.
Special days have always been celebrated via morning assembly and various activities. Special assemblies were held on 'World Population Day’, Bakra Eid,Raksha Bandhan, Janamashtami, International Girl child Day a girl child and women empowerment.
Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra and Diwali celebrations were also part of special assemblies. On Diwali Day the students paid a tribute to the support staff and conducted a special assembly thanking them for their services. The students distributed the sweets and gift provided by the management to the support staff. This is an initiative of DPS Haldwani.
The very first scholar badge ceremony was conducted for the academic session 2018-2019 Students of class V onward were presented green
and red scholar badges for scholastic and co scholastic excellence respectively.
Investiture ceremony one of the most important event of a school was held in July 2019. The student council were ready to don their leadership role and to be the leaders who inspire. Student Council was elected from Class IX.
The school celebrated Independence Day on August 15, 2019 which had an inter house dance competition besides the patriotic songs and fervour. Students were also motivated to work towards our Prime Minister's clarion call of swachh bharat and Fit India.
Our yearly cultural display cum exhibition Dharohar was organised which had the focus state as "Punjab" The day was a trip to Punjab where one learnt everything about Punjab from cuisine, dress, culture, dance, music, and so on and so forth.
On September 3, 2019 we celebrated our Foundation Day with a havan and prayer service which was attended by management, staff and students.
September 5, Teachers’ Day saw an unusual excitement in the school atmosphere which was quite contagious. In spite of Half Yearly examinations just round the corner our students went full on to make the day special for their teachers. The pre-primary students put up a special programme as well students from different levels performed. Class IX students managed the organisation and implementation of the programme showing true leadership qualities. Grandparents Day of Pre Primary wing was celebrated under the theme “RETRO”. Main attraction of the event was the ramp walk for the grandparents singles as well as a couple.
On August 29, 2019, National Sports Day on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of the Hockey Wizard Major Dhyan Chand was celebrated with great enthusiasm. The special attractions of the day were-Yoga presentation, Fun Games by the students of classes I and II. It developed a healthy spirit of competition among the students. Students were awarded with certificates for their performance in sports and fun filled activities.
included Bal Kavi Sammelan, English hand writing, Hindi declamation, Rakhi making, Maihun Vakta - Hindi poem recitation, Spell Bee, GK Olympiad, English Elocution, Debate, Extempore, Art and craft- ,Best out of waste etc.
The school organized Inter House Competitions pertaining to Display Board, Group Dance, KhoKho and Football to encourage team spirit and understanding of culture among students so far. Also house boards were made on the given themes and marked. Four special assemblies presented by
different houses were also assessed.
Besides the annual and half yearly examination performance per house is also considered and the students of a section with top four positions contributing to the house points.
DPS has its own national level competitions wherein the different DPShave been divided into zones which compete and then at National level all zonal toppers participate. It was our first year of participation and we sent our students for Swaranjali to DPS Dehradun and Nrityanjali to Lucknow. These were Inter DPS Music and Dance competitions respectively. In sports our students participated in the Inter DPS Football competition at Bareilly and were second in their pool. Three students qualified in the written Inter DPS quiz competition.
DPS in association with SOF holds a SMTE for Class IX students. This is to be held for level 1 on November 20, 2019
In January we will have the DPS level examinations for students of V, VIII and IX where a common paper in Mathematics and English will be conducted to see the parallel teaching and learning Pan India in all DPS.
Now as winter has come we have started horse riding classes for our students of classes III to IX. Occasional joy rides will be sampled by students of I and II.
The various ways in which hands on activities are conducted and the children experience learning on their own via English and Math Lab is commendable.
Working towards achieving the desired goal, Students of class III to IX enjoy an array of linguistics activities like listening exercises, vocabulary work and fluency building exercises independently.
Math Lab makes it interesting and easy for students to explore the three dimensional learning. Science is all about learning by doing. Science lab activities serve the same function and enhance the learning process when the children do it themselves.
The children pour over puzzles, brainteasers, etc. gently raising the bar and shunning mediocrity. We have storytelling, shloka recitation, spellathons, quiz, cooking without fire, e-class, evacuation drills, celebration of national and international day, crafts, swachathaabhyaan, dance, yoga, Olympiads, field trips, etiquette workshops, few of a long list. We revise curriculums to suit the learning graph of our students and the assessment of student’s learning is an on-going and cumulative process. This institution envisages an all-around and balanced education based on sound intellectual, physical, moral and social formation. Special stress has been laid on the character formation and development of personality.The TWIN WIN programme has successfully managed to inculcate and implement the same. The value education via CACA has helped students to grow and inculcate values to make well rounded human beings. The aim is to make students erudite, patriotic, law abiding and ceaselessly seeking excellence, with a deep concern for all especially the weak and the poor sections of the society. Whatever they learn from this institution will enable them to stand in good stead in every situation. It will guide and make their life successful and happy. We had the first batch of Class IX who went through the process of CBSE Registration -the first benchmark of their competitive career.
Workshops for Students Students attended workshops on healthy eating habits, fire safety, good touch, bad touch, safety rules, book reading, storytelling, public speaking, health and hygiene, and craft work.
Learning Time for Teachers .The teachers of Delhi Public School, Haldwani attended a two days workshop organised by NIIT to focus on exploring newer and innovative methods of teaching MATHEMATICS. English Language Lab workshop was conducted for teachers to enhance their skills with the English language training lab and to focus on exploring newer and interesting approaches to teach English as a language.
One day training by NIIT for ICT was conducted for all teachers.
SWOT analysis was done to bring out everybody's perception on the table and to work towards gaining strengths and converting opportunities. Teachers also attended the innovative and informative work shop on 3 D printing and got whole lot of idea on very unconventional way of printing.
BLOOM’S Taxonomy was conducted for teachers. Focus was to enhance innovation and creativity and less emphasis on evaluation. The teachers of attended the e- learning tutorial session of Extramarks to make the teaching digital friendly, more interactive and advanced.
The Principal and the Vice Principal took a series of workshops like overview of NCF, CBSE guidelines, safety and security guidelines, team building, time management, classroom management, model lesson plans to name a few during the summer vacations as well as on Non Instructional Working Days(NIWD)
Training cum workshop programme of English was held at DPS HRD Centre, Lodhi Road which was attended by a faculty member Ms Poonam Negi who was representing Delhi Public School, Haldwani.
A fifteen days ECE workshop was attended by Ms.Sapna Sahni at DPS HRD Centre Lodhi Road After CBSE affiliation we have had numerous CBSE trainings CBSE capacity building workshop for Value Education, Social Science, Science, Physical education and Remodelled assessment was attended by different faculty members.
The Principal attended the Seminar chaired by the controller of Examinations Mr.Sanyam Bhardwaj and Mr Ranbeer Singh Head CBSE Dehradun at Don Bosco Girls School at Aam Parao. We conducted the CBSE Capacity building workshop for life skills at DPS Haldwani on August 12, 2019
In the month of February we started a parent connect programme to reach out to parents on their turf and faculty visited randomly homes of more than 50% of our students.
Our continuation to that endeavour was Samvaad lets talk An open forum conducted with parents of class VI – IX. Specialists from different fields were invited to talk on issues related to adolescence and their angst. An esteemed panel addressed the issues. We aim to conduct similar sessions with a wide array of topics to address the issues faced by our young ones as well as parents dilemma in handling them.
To enhance the connect Mother’s Day was celebrated and specially level Pre primary to II when mothers joined their children in the swimming pool to spend some fun filled moments with their kids and enjoyed a splashy mother’s day.
We are constantly sensitising our students to the less privileged and to contribute from their end. Every year we have decided to celebrate December as joy of giving month. From December 1 to December 21, 2019 we collect old clothes, story books and toys but in good condition and donate it to the less fortunate.
We constantly sensitise our students towards environment conservation.
World Earth Day: was celebrated with explicit goal of protecting and nurturing Mother Earth, celebrated in the lively ambience of the school campus.
It is rightly said" The least a human could do is to plant a tree to compensate the harm they cause to the planet daily". Keeping this in mind students learnt the value of trees by planting some trees as a class activity, before and after HARELA to represent that every day is special to ponder over saving our planet.
Polythene Hatao Children of Delhi Public School, Haldwani took a pledge to remove plastic from their lives and to spread awareness for ban on single use plastic. Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Students on the occasion of 150 th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi participated in a ShobhaYatra where they spread the message of tree plantation and saying no to plastic.
In March after the examinations we request parents to recycle and donate old text books and notebooks as well as story books,to donate them to the orphanages and areas where students are deprived of books.
We want to be recognized as a model for excellence in academics, art, culture and sports. Each student shall demonstrate a spirit of respect, responsibility and a commitment to academic and civic excellence.
I believe our children will only blossom and learn in an environment where we never diminish the dignity of a child. This school’s mission and dream is to make a positive difference to every life that we touch. I assure the parents who have entrusted their children to us- they are in good and safe hands. The warm, friendly and stimulating environment is a good home away from home for our children.
Education must cater to the holistic development of the child, in which happiness and health are paramount. Children are our strength and inspiration; we trust that we will send into this world the children that are compassionate, sensitive with a strong sense of self-worth.
